You aren’t born with self-confidence, you have to create it.

Someone recently told me that they found confidence “intimidating” and that they “could never be like that”.

Unfortunately, many of us men were socialized to believe that a confident man is loud, extroverted, and aggressive.

Yet I consider myself to be confident and am none of those things.

Quiet confidence

I call my personal brand of self-confidence quiet confidence.

When I explain to my clients that confidence can be quiet and humble, they suddenly realize that they are more confident than they think they are.

Traits of quiet confidence include:

  • Uplifting others around you
  • Admitting when you don’t know
  • Listening to others
  • Trusting yourself
  • Choosing self-compassion over self-judgment in the face of failure
  • Acknowledging your fears
  • Letting your achievements speak for themselves

The biggest misconception that guys have about self-confidence is that it means you have to be loud, outgoing, and boastful.

Sure that’s one way it could look, but I can assure you it’s not the only way.

What would you do with more confidence?

Regardless of your preferred brand of self-confidence, when you have more of it you will:

  • Take more action
  • Talk to more people
  • Take more risks
  • Achieve more
  • Believe in yourself so hard it will inspire others around you
  • Learn faster
  • Be more resilient in the face of adversity
  • Feel more optimistic about your future

Self-confidence is wonderful for you and the people around you. They will love being in your energy. The best part is, since you’re creating it from within yourself, you don’t need to hustle for it.

You don’t need other people to tell you how great you are (but it still feels good to hear it!), and you don’t need to change your career, relationship, or body.

You just need to change your mind.

A confident brain

Your brain does not produce self-confidence naturally. On automatic mode, it produces fear, worry, and doubt.

The good news is that you can override automatic mode by training your brain to produce self-confidence naturally, from within.

There are two ways to do this:

  1. Upgrade your mindset
  2. Take action

The great news is they work together. When you go in the right direction with one, the other gets easier. And it’s a beautiful cycle.

Just like getting on a bicycle for the first time, you need a bit of belief in yourself, expert guidance, and consistency.
